Using technology and facilitated discussions is both a risk and a challenge when teaching 600 women in four states how to manage risk. Change is a constant in every farming operation and women producers need to have the skills and tools to make important decisions that affect their farm profitability, including financial decision-making, marketing, employee management and their own quality of life. Hear how using a facilitated discussion and a SWOT analysis teaches the decision making process and the elements for taking on a new capital purchase. The “take away” message includes understanding the key elements for decision making, using a SWAT analysis tool and being able to apply the concepts in the scenario to fit other situations. Case studies will show that women do understand why it’s important to go through a process to determine if they can make a change in the way they do business.
