The recent train-the-trainer event held in Omaha, NE on January 3-6 included a full-day session on the risk associated with carbon contracts. The attendance was surprising given that it was a Friday event and the last topic of the overall conference. The presentation was unique in that it was designed using andragogic principles, in this case, experiential learning. The format and training took advantage of each learner's experience and knowledge by immersing them in a simulation and having them use electronic tools accessible online that estimate sequestered carbon based on location and practice. While these tools are new, they show great promise in helping producers understand contract risk and potential benefits and costs associated with the many different types of carbon contracts. This presentation will discuss the Omaha event, the andragogic approach, how it could be adapted to producers and the user response to the topic and tools introduced.
