Expanding Annie´s Project Throughout New England (Also sharing expansion success with conference attendees)

Summary
In anticipation of expanding Annie’s Project (AP) in the Northeast, in particular New England (NE), NYAP is proposing to share its unique experiences over the past five years to initiate a conference with NE Extension colleagues, and at the same time provide those in attendance at the ERME conference with specific criteria that will help facilitate AP programming as well as agri-women’s discussion groups. NYAP looks forward to engaging a broader audience of potential AP facilitators.
Background: Since 2011 Cornell Cooperative Extension Educators have targeted women in agriculture by implementing two Annie’s Project curriculums, Agricultural Risk Management addressing the five areas of risk; and Managing for Today and Tomorrow addressing farm transition planning, the latter currently in progress statewide.
NYAP has been awarded ERME funding on three occasions, two of which enabled NYAP to expand statewide, training twenty-five Extension educators and agricultural service providers and reaching over 225 (and counting) women in farming, or farm families. All CCE NYAP educators are prepared to facilitate AP curriculum at any time.
NYAP has built an extensive collaborative in support of women of agriculture that includes (not limited to) multiple CCE Associations, Farm Credit East, CoBANK, New York FarmNet (Cornell University), NYS Agricultural Mediation Center, NYS Workforce Development Institute, and New York Agri-Women, Inc.
NYAP was recognized for its efforts in the USDA Impact Statement 2014, and recently was approached by Cornell University to partner in research / grant opportunities that address women in farming and their capacity to implement sustainable agriculture.
