The University of Minnesota Extension hosts around 40 to 50 Farmland Rent and Economics workshops across the state of Minnesota each fall and winter. This session will highlight the success of farmland rental workshops in Minnesota and our format and evaluation data. The topics of discussion include county farmland rental rate trends, crop budgets, FINBIN data analysis, land values, worksheets for both landowners and farmers, flexible rent agreements, and negotiation tips for mutual agreements. The workshops take around two hours to complete. Each participant receives a handout covering the material we discussed in the workshop. Evaluations are also given out to help the University of Minnesota Extension improve and update the workshops. The breakdown of participants is approximately 55 percent landowners, 35 percent farmers, and 10 percent agricultural professionals in the crowd. Over 90 percent of respondents view the class as beneficial. The University of Minnesota Extension has been hosting these meetings for the last ten years.
