The rules that FDA has developed under the Food Safety Modernization Act have added a new dimension to legal risk management for producers across the country as they seek to understand and comply with emerging regulations such as the Produce Safety Rule. For many American Indian and Alaska Native producers, part of this essential legal risk management also includes evaluating how to comply with regulations while upholding cultural values. As the Native American Tribal Center for Food Safety Outreach, Education, Training, and Technical Assistance, the Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative has been working to train Native producers across the country on the Produce Safety Rule, using a culturally relevant curriculum we have specifically developed for Indian Country. Join our team members at this session to hear about the development of this curriculum and best practices for helping Native producers manage their legal risks in a changing regulatory environment.
