Sustainable Business Planning

Summary

This session will describe a six hour train-the-trainer workshop for agricultural business planning. The purpose is to help educators learn how to use the FINPACK Business Plan software and the Minnesota Institute for Sustainable Agriculture’s Building a Sustainable Business workbook with a group of producers. Workshop materials include two sets of power point slide shows, one for professionals and one for producers that discuss issues that need to be addressed in the strategic planning, marketing, operations, finance, and personnel sections of a business plan. There is also a DVD interview with the farm family highlighted in the Building a Sustainable Business Plan workbook that discusses the benefits and challenges of developing a business plan. A set of group discussion questions is included with the interview.
