Many people who wish to start a farm (or have started to farm) are not fully aware of the risks involved with the risks associated with farm operation. An online course entitled “Taking Care of Business: Understanding the Business, Tax and Regulatory Implications of Your Farm” highlights some key risk areas that beginning farmers should be concerned about. Risk topics highlighted during the six week course are: regulations, legal issues, insurance, business structure and taxes. Local authorities are recruited to give presentations on these topics during weekly webinars.
In this presentation, Steve Hadcock will share how he has adapted and changed this online course in an attempt to make it more engaging for participants. He will do this in part by sharing some of the results of student surveys.
This course is one of several online courses hosted by the Cornell Small Farms Program.
