The "On My Own" workshop series empowers women farm operators with essential agricultural risk management skills. This poster focuses on the workshop's success in helping women landowners navigate critical aspects of farm management, such as agricultural leasing, farmland valuation, and custom work.
By addressing the educational needs of this underserved group, the program empowered participants to make informed decisions that mitigate financial and legal risks. Recognizing the audience's average age of 65, the instructors included well-organized printed materials to make the content more accessible, fostering a supportive learning environment. Instructors also demonstrated patience and dedication, revisiting foundational concepts to ensure full comprehension regardless of prior knowledge. The positive reception was reflected in active participation and the formation of returning cohorts, underscoring the program's relevance and impact.
Participant evaluations reported improved confidence in negotiating lease agreements and determining fair rental rates. Survey responses highlighted significant knowledge gains and plans to implement strategies from the workshop, such as leasing their land, hiring custom work, or adjusting their lease terms.
Educational efforts tailored to older women landowners reduced risks in financial management and farm transitions. These results highlight the value of targeted educational programs in supporting sustainable agriculture and empowering underrepresented groups.
